What this site is

Fence Ledger is a free planning tool. It estimates material quantities and cost ranges for fence projects from the measurements and assumptions you provide. It is offered as-is, for planning purposes.

What it is not

It is not engineering advice, a building code compliance check, a structural assessment, or a quotation. Post depth, spacing, permitted heights, setbacks, frost depth and permit requirements are set by local law and local conditions, and the site does not know yours. Verify them with your local building department, and have anything structural checked by a qualified professional.

Cost figures are ranges compiled from published national sources and are not offers, quotes, or predictions of what you will be charged.

Accuracy and your responsibility

The arithmetic is shown on the site so you can check it, and we would rather hear about an error than have you work around one. Even so, results depend entirely on the inputs and assumptions used, and site conditions vary. You are responsible for verifying quantities before ordering materials and for confirming any requirement that affects safety or compliance. Buying too much, buying too little, or building something that does not meet local requirements remains your decision and your risk.

Availability

The site may change, break, or go away. No uptime is promised, and features may be added or removed without notice.

Advertising and links

The site carries advertising, and may in future contain links to third-party merchants from which a commission is earned. Any such link will be disclosed. We do not control third-party sites and are not responsible for their content, prices, or practices.

Intellectual property

The name Fence Ledger, the site's text and its design belong to Tao Zhang. You are welcome to use the results for your own project, print them, and share them. You may not copy the site's content wholesale to republish it elsewhere.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tao Zhang is not liable for any loss arising from use of this site, including wasted materials, project delays, rework, or costs exceeding an estimate. This is a free tool with no warranty of any kind, express or implied.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA.
